AFTERCARE WITH SECOND SKIN (DERM SHIELD, SANIDERM, ETC.)

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully. Please follow these instructions carefully.

Wearing the Protective Film

  • After your session, a breathable protective film (such as Derm Shield, Saniderm, or Second Skin) will be applied. This acts as a barrier against bacteria while allowing your skin to heal naturally.
  • Avoid hot showers, baths, excessive sweating, tight clothing, and scratching while the film is on. A quick, lukewarm shower is fine.

What to Expect

  • Over the first few days, fluid buildup (plasma, ink, and lymph) under the film is normal. You may see bubbles forming—do not pop, scratch, or remove the film early unless there is excessive irritation or allergic reaction to the adhesive.

Removing the Film

  • Remove the film on the 4th day after your appointment (your tattoo day is Day 1).
  • To make removal easier, hold the area under warm water for a few minutes to loosen the adhesive.
  • Gently peel the film off by pulling it parallel to the skin—do not rip it off like a bandage.

Cleaning & Moisturizing

  1. Wash your tattoo gently using mild, unscented, antibacterial soap (no fragrance or dyes). Use your hands—no washcloths or sponges.
  2. If any adhesive residue remains, do not scrub—it will naturally come off over time.
  3. Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel and let it air dry completely.
  4. Apply a thin layer of a gentle, fragrance-free, petroleum-free lotion. Any unscented, non-greasy moisturizer will work, such as:
    • Coconut oil
    • Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion
    • Lubriderm
  5. If you’d like to use a tattoo-specific product, Mad Rabbit offers a great selection:
    • Mad Rabbit Soothing Gel
    • Mad Rabbit Daily Tattoo Lotion
    • Mad Rabbit Tattoo Balm

Things to Avoid During Healing

  • For 3 days: Avoid alcohol, strong coffee, energy drinks, and vasodilators.
  • For 5 days: Avoid intense workouts and sweating.
  • For 3 weeks: No baths, saunas, pools, oceans, tanning, or sun exposure.
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics (cotton, linen).

Long-Term Tattoo Care

  • Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen whenever your tattoo is exposed to the sun.
  • Moisturize regularly to maintain skin health and tattoo vibrancy.

AFTERCARE WITH PLASTIC WRAP (SARAN WRAP)

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully. Please follow these instructions carefully.

Initial Care (First 24-48 Hours)

  1. Bandage Removal: Within 3 hours of your session, carefully remove the plastic wrap with clean hands.
  2. Cleaning: Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, unscented soap. Use your hands, not a washcloth. Pat dry or let air dry.
  3. Dry Healing Period: For the first 24-48 hours, keep the tattoo clean and dry without lotion.

Ongoing Care (After 48 Hours)

  1. Moisturizing: After the dry period, apply a thin layer of moisturizer 2-3 times daily. Recommended:
    • Coconut oil
    • Lubriderm
    • Aveeno
    • Mad Rabbit products (use code MILLAKASTATTOOS for 20% off)
  2. Apply a very thin layer — the tattoo should feel hydrated but not greasy.
  3. Do not pick at flakes; let them fall naturally.

Additional Recommendations

  • Stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet.
  • Wear loose, breathable fabrics.
  • Avoid direct sunlight; once healed, always apply SPF 50+.
  • For the first 3 weeks, avoid swimming, baths, saunas, and heavy sweating.
